The ethnological exhibition of the Museum in Prijepolje, „The Past as a Gift,“ is an attempt to present this region in terms of what makes it recognizable and different from others.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The culture of mountain herders, which originated in predominantly mountainous, forested areas, as well as the urban culture formed primarily under centuries of Turkish domination with milder European influences, were presented as the interior spaces of village and city houses that were the center of family life and gatherings.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In this way, we have presented all the components that define the folk culture and key ethnographic traits of the Prijepolje region \u2013 the type of house, living spaces with furnishings and household items, clothing, and women’s domestic roles.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In this relatively small exhibition space, we gain insight into the folk culture of the region and daily life through specially displayed examples of dishes\u2014metal ones crafted by blacksmiths, and wooden and pottery items created by self-taught village artisans skilled in pottery and woodworking.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A special and very important section focuses on objects of widespread and cherished women’s crafts, including towels, slippers, rugs, and particularly small clothing items such as socks, stockings, and gloves. These items, both aesthetically and technically, represent valuable examples of the folk art of this region. Jewelry, too, occupies an important place in the permanent exhibitions, as an essential part of clothing and a symbol of status.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n

A roughly identical style of townhouse unified all parts of Serbia that were under Turkish rule. Islamic architecture focuses on meeting the functional needs of people while aiming to provide as much comfort, convenience, and enjoyment as possible in the home, as well as in the flowers, nature, and greenery that surround it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vlado Divac’s basketball career spanned 25 years without interruption. The Museum Gallery showcases photographs that capture some of the most significant moments from this period: his early beginnings in Prijepolje, his development in Kraljevo, and his first major successes in Belgrade, which paved the way for his career with some of the world’s top teams and his move to the United States. In addition to photographs and video material, the Gallery also displays the awards he earned throughout his career: gold, silver, and bronze medals, trophies, and cups. A special highlight of the exhibition is the sports equipment he used while playing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The idea of marking the end of Vlade Divac’s basketball career with a large multimedia project, including an exhibition, was first conceived in 1995, after his victory with the gold medal at the European Championship in Athens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the foundation of the Museum in Prijepolje, and based on a project by author Slavoljub Pu\u0161ica, an exhibition was organized, along with a ceremonial reception. This event served as Vlade Divac’s heartfelt farewell to basketball in his hometown, where his journey began.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n

For the first time in the history of professional sports, a „star“ marked his sporting career with a museum exhibition. This, as it was called, „planetary event,“ represents not only a sporting event but also a cultural event, and the city where Vlade Divac was born, thanks to him, became the center of the world that day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n

The presence of famous NBA players – Chris Weber, Scott Pollard, Glenn Rice, Sarunas Marchullionis, Toni Kukoc, as well as teammates from the national team – Danilovi\u0107, \u0110or\u0111evi\u0107, Paspalj, Savi\u0107, Bodiroga and famous coaches Gregg Popovi\u0107 from the NBA and the Serbian national team coach Du\u0161an Ivkovi\u0107, confirmed that Vlade Divac was and remains one of the most respected Serbs in the world.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
